Energy savings

While we are still waiting for the solar panels to come down in price, so that we will have unlimited and cheap power, but in the mean time here are some tips to reduce your power consumption and lower your bills.

Don't cramp your refridgerator into a tight space. The heat at the back of the fridge is not because of the heat-pump using electricity but because the "heat" from inside the fridge is dumped at the back. So make sure the heat can go somewhere else instead of going back into the fridge again though the wall. Heat rises so make sure the top space is open. Another tip is to put the fridge in a as cool as possible enviroment, like a cellar. The heat pump has to work less hard then.

Be careful with small energy users that are on for the whole year. Something that uses 1 Watt, consumes 9 kWh! a year. Running a computer as a server for your website which has only a few visitors a day is not a good idea! On average a computer will consume around 150-200 Watts and that is with the monitor being off. That is in 1 year an amazing 1800 kWh and that will be a huge share of your energy bill. If you still want to use a computer, buy a laptop instead. The price may be a little higher but it uses less than half as much as a desktop.

But what we really need is an unlimited supply of energy and a Solar Tower in one of the earth deserts looks like a good plan. This design works day and night and all year around.
